Toyota iq problems

By paul27February 22, in IQ Club. I just wanted to know if anyone has occured any problems with their IQ's. The problem i have with the gearbox is i cant select 2nd gear at all, 3rd can be a little tricky at times. Yeah i know, belive me i will be having many words with them to re-emburse me something at least, we'll see. My car has trouble going into 2nd gear from 3rd so often that I fear I have the same issue.

Hmm - the manual iQ I test drove at Sandhurst was very notchy to get into 2nd I've ordered an auto so fingers crossed! If it DOES need a new box which, going by above it does! I'm NOT a happy bunny I looked at the too, very nice but THE sticking point for me was how much it looks like a Nissan Micra from the back. That sealed its fate!

There have been a few problems with the iq being reported, if it were me, i would have waited a while to see how people rated the car first before buying, after all the iq has not had the best of reviews? Which brings me back to a comment I made on another post, with any new car I would wait at least 12 months and even then, maybe for the face lifted version! This is becoming the norm, the first purchasers of any new concept, whether software or vehicular, become the final line of beta testers and as long as, in this case, the Toyota infrastructure and service backup are up to it, it shouldn't be too traumatic for owners.

I kind of expected teething problems and do not really mind as long as I am not left stranded somewhere for hours! It is an exciting, innovative little car that is full of character and I can't see me buying anything different But the thing is, the same with Vista, that you do need people to buy it to "test run" it However, I did notice it didn't always go cleanly into 2nd on my test drive.

Hope that isn't going to prove to be a problem. The thing is, Vista only cost a couple of hundred quid, a new iQ is over 10 grand which is a lot of money to play guinea pig. I've ordered an auto.

Everyone is talking about this being a new design, unproven, and all that, but hasnt this car been on sale in Japan for a longtime before it was available over here. Surely, the Japanese will have come across the same problems.

Does anybody know how long it has been on the roads in Japan? Or does any body know of a Japanes forum could anybody read it? PS I just had a look around on the net, it seems that it hit the streets in Japan in November Paul27, can I ask you a question please? At the moment I sometimes get a "stuck" sensation mid gear change, which results in me either having to pop it back into neutral and then back into gear or wrench the stick to get into gear!!! I'm guessing that as you clocked up odd miles it wasn't a huge issue to start Also, which garage is yours with?

I want to report this development with your car to the Basingstoke Toyota branch so they can cross reference and get my car sorted ASAP! You can post now and register later. You're almost there. If no lights coming on in the dashboard and no other electrical consumers work, the battery could be completely dead or there is no connection between the battery and the vehicle electrical system.

Check if the battery terminals look tight. If the battery is completely dead, jump starting might help. In this case, try turning the steering wheel left and right while gently jiggling the ignition key — this might help to release the steering lock.

Check the battery and the terminal cable connections. If they look really corroded, you need to clean the battery posts and cable connectors or replace the cables and try to start the engine. Also check the starter. The solenoid attached to the top of the starter can fail, as well as the components inside. Replace starter solenoid, starter contacts, starter assembly or repair starter circuit as required. Very often this could be caused by a low battery or poor connection between the battery and starter.

There are many possible causes, but we know it is neither a battery nor a starter problem. Just remember: a vehicle will always require air, fuel, and the ignition to operate. Check the fuel. If the wrong amount of fuel is being injected into the combustion chamber, or being injected at the wrong time, the engine will not start.

Again, this will be a case where the engine cranks over, but will not actually run. This could be caused by a few different parts including the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, and fuel lines.

Some of those options are a stretch, but do have an effect on the system.

Start with the fuel injectors, and make sure they are clean. Check the spark. Without spark to ignite the fuel mix in the combustion chamber, the engine will not start. Spark issues are not limited to the plugs. Check the spark plug wires, the distributor or module, and plug gap. These all have a huge effect on the function of the ignition system. There is one particular car that I am going to look at in a couple of days, but I would prefer to have some more knowledge before I see it. What problems should I be looking out for with the IQ? Does anyone have a list? I have had a look on the Internet, but I can't find anything useful.

Please help. Early cars were thought to be prone to EGR issues, which were actually to do with the exhaust manifold - Toyota announced a Voluntary Service Campaign earlier this year re the exhaust manifold:.

Check AC works and leave on during test drive. When you finish check footwells for any damp. Check sills for damage due to the car being too small for some service lefts.

Any hesitation or lack of of power which will most likely be related to EGR clogging as above. Check steering wheel is straight as columns have been replaced on some from recalls. Listen for knock on cold start and rattles during operation, these are expensive fixes but not common.

Listen for any whining on idle if you get a manual version. IQs are solid cars so you shouldn't have any problems. If its any help, my iq3 1.

And it just goes and goes, nothing has ever gone wrong, everything still works, it does 92 miles a day, i'd stake my life on it. Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your help. It will all really help when I go to look at the IQ.Very close runner up to European Car of the Year with votes to the VW Polo's votes, despite not a single Japanese on the voting panel. Work included new EGR and manifold made it worsenew gearbox, balancing shafts, a drivetrain strip down and rebuild, an interior strip out and rebuild, new exhaust and cat, new wheels and tyres, and yet the car got progressively worse, though still giving mid 50s mpg around town.

There is a Toyota Technical Service Bulletin published in August that identifies the problem and provides a solution a redesigned exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe which has the EGR pipe after the catalytic converterwhich had been incorporated into new cars from June Goodwill from Toyota sought.

Should this happen, the driver would need to apply extra effort to steer the vehicle. This issue has only been observed in very specific circumstances in Japan. No cases have been reported in Europe. No accidents related to this issue have been reported.

The repair involves the update or replacement of the EPS control unit software. The job will take approximately two hours to complete, at no cost to the customer. The covered condition may occur when sunlight over time degrades the adhesion between the factory- applied paint primer coat layer and the base metal electrodeposition layer causing the paint to peel from the metal body panel.

When you pour in thousands of dollars a year paying off and maintaining your car, the least you can expect from a Toyota is for the car to start up every day given basic maintenance and for the paint not to fall off while you own it. Submit proof of a payment made before a certain date. I am one of those victims with the paint flaking off. I was ready to have my car repainted when I got their letter. I hope they will respray the entire car, however, they will need to sand the entire car first before respraying to prevent other areas of the car from flaking off later!

There are four primary reasons why this may occur and many of them are easy to address. Take a look at the main reasons why this occurs listed below and how you can address them. Some of these issues are much easier to address than others. Step one is to make sure that you have your foot firmly on the brake pedal. This safety feature will not allow you to start the key without taking that easy step and firmly pressing the brake. Located at the bottom of the instrument panel below the steering wheel, the Smart Key deactivation switch is a little known element that could cause you a headache.

Just flip the switch and you will be back in action. If your instrument panel dims when you press the START button, it may indicate that your vehicle has a low battery.
